Right now

Being proved right normally elicits a smug smile and a feeling of vindication.
I love being right.
It is my happy place.
My other half would tell you that I am smug in the face of victory. Am pretty much always right…undoubtedly he does this for an easy life. But to the victor the spoils and for me those spoils are a high horse and a smug smile.
But this time it don’t feel like taking the horse out for a trot.
Right before our eyes, the racism that every person of colour has told you happens, is happening. And even worse, people are explaining it away. Justifying it as eastern Europe has always been like that.
Black people should know they aren’t welcome there.
Black people shouldn’t be surprised that they are being put to the back of the queue.
Brown people shouldn’t think that their mothers and sons fit the category of women and children first.
In this ‘civilised’ war, which has surprised the west, where bombs and chaos shouldn’t happen. In a white world, where white people aren’t aggressors and white people certainly can’t be displaced, there are questions to be asked.
How is it that black and brown can be left to bombs and war? To fight to survive, with no donations, no rallying calls of support.
The crisis in Ukraine is tragic. We should not stop the aid, we should not stop the outrage, we should not stop trying to save these people.
But maybe, just maybe, that rage, that aid, that help, could go out to the people that don’t look like you?
